Okay, here we go...
Q. Where did the name "Sister-Dipity" come from?
A. Well, my sister, Cherie, and I had always talked about having a booth at a craft fair but had never done it. This past fall she talked me into it....2 weeks before the actual event! We had NOTHING made. We worked like crazy for 2 weeks making wreaths, mittens, topiaries, and jewelry. We were exhausted by the time the event finally rolled around. My brother-in-law built us a gorgeous stand to display all of our wreaths and we had a beautiful table set up next to it for the topiaires and the jewelry. It was a lovely booth, if I do say so myself. (See Photo Below.) We thought we needed a name for our...well, whatever we were. We talked about Serendipity and our mother, who quietly observed our chaos in planning to have a booth at a craft fair just days before the actual fair, sarcastically (yet, sweetly) said "Sister-Dipity." She was really kind of making fun of us but we loved the name. So when I started the blog (with the hopes of dragging my sister along here with me) I didn't hesitate to call it "Sister-Dipity" and added the phrase: 'Sisterhood of the Working Mom' to better describe the theme of the blog.
Q. As a working mom, how do you find time to blog?
A. Good question! I can't say I really "find" the time but rather just squeeze it in! I do most of my blogging on Friday nights, Sunday afternoons (during nap time) and some week nights after the kids have gone to bed. Blogger allows me to save my posts as drafts so I can publish them when I am ready and Blogger also has a setting that allows me to schedule the posts. For example, I can finish one on Sunday night then set the schedule so it posts on Monday morning. Works good! And I always have many, many drafts going on. The drafts help me to remember my ideas that I may want to use in the future.
I consider myself a bit creative both in my elementary classroom and at home. At the beginning of this past school year, I came across some new children's books that had just been published. My kids LOVED them. I began to think that as a teacher, I sometimes have an advantage to seeing and hearing about great books, music, and projects to do with my own children. I thought "Parents need to know this stuff!" My blog gives me the opportunity to share the great stuff I find!
I've found being a mom to three little kids and working full time as a teacher, that I sort of lose myself in this hectic life with lesson plans, meetings, homework, housework, piles of laundry, runny noses, bath time, sleepless nights, etc. etc....you get the idea! My blog is ME. It is a creative outlet that allows me to connect with other busy ladies out there in blog land.
The blog also allows me to share what is going on in our busy lives with family and friends. I ALWAYS have my camera with me so I always have pictures of everything that goes on! The blog is sort of my online scrapbook to record what goes on in our lives.
And finally, a confession...sometimes....blogging does replace time that I should be sweeping or folding clothes! Ugh...I know, I know!!! My husband knows this is important to me and is very supportive of it though!
Q. What is a Linky Party?
A. A Linky Party is a blog event that a blog author "hosts" at his or her blog for other bloggers to share ideas. The blogger will post an invitation with guidelines for joining the Linky Party and then bloggers will post a picture with a link back to their site sharing with readers recipes, crafts, sewing projects, party ideas, household tips, projects to do with kids, giveaways....you get the idea! Sometimes the host has a set theme such as just sewing projects or just food. It varies depending on the blog that is hosting the event. Linky Parties are a great way to get to know new people in Blog Land and discover new blogs. Linky Parties are very inspiring (and addicting!) SO many good ideas! Click HERE to see the Linky Parties I join when I have a recipe or project to share.
Q. What kind of camera do you have?
A. I have a Canon Rebel Xsi with an EFS 55-250 mm zoom lens. I like it a lot! I use Picasa to do my photo editing. I have learned A LOT about photography and photo editing since I started blogging. I still feel like I have so much to learn though. I do not know how to photograph food at all. Anyone have any tricks or tips you could share with me??
Q. Do you have to have your own blog to be a follower?
A. No. You just sign up through Google Friend Contact and it just keeps track of the blogs you like and want to follow. Signing up doesn't commit you to anything.
Q. Where do the giveaway products come from?
A. I have already had several giveaways since my blog started in early January. I have been so fortunate to have had several very talented artists from Etsy willing to host a giveaway on the blog. Doing so allows more exposure for them and their product/shop and it gets me more readers too! Just in the past few weeks I have been sent free products from a couple companies asking me to try their products and blog about them. The companies then will host a giveaway on my blog featuring one of their products. Again, this gets me more readers and hopefully gets them more business! Everyone wins! I have met many wonderful people through the giveaways as well. I am SO looking forward to the upcoming products that will be featured on Sister-Dipity. Stay tuned! You won't want to miss out!! Right now there is a giveaway for a $20.00 Thirty-One Gifts gift certificate! Check it out! AND a giveaway for a $20.00 store credit to the Etsy shop, Miss Meliss Boutiques! Check that out too!
Q. Where do you get the ideas to write about?
A. I have no problem finding things to talk about. In fact I have to try to pull in the reigns on my ideas! Like I said, I have my camera with me all the time. I like to share pictures of the kids, craft projects I have been indulging in, things I've done with my students at school, activities, parties, and crafts I've done with my own children, recipes, new products I've discovered, my Pinterest interests, and things I'm learning as I muddle my way through life as a working mom with three little ones! My career is children all day and then I go home with my own three children. Children, children all the time! I don't always feel like anyone is listening to me! The blog allows me to voice my thoughts and at least gives me the illusion that I'm being heard! :)
Q. What blogs do you follow?
A. I follow a lot of blogs through Google Friend Contact, Facebook and email updates. Almost 2 years ago I was on bedrest during the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy with my son, Oliver. Much of this time was spent on bedrest in the hospital. It was SO boring! I began to catch up on my first favorite blog, Kuzak's Closet. I read posts I had missed in the past until I know I had truly read her WHOLE blog! I then began reading all the blogs she mentioned in her blog....and so on. I was a bit blog obsessed! Great use of bedrest time though! :) My love of blogs evolved from there! I am drawn to blogs that are about motherhood, crafts, antiques, decorating, scrapbooking, before and afters, DIY, fashion...I'm really interested in a lot of things! Here are some of the blogs I check out frequently:
-The Mom Creative
-Embellishing Life Everyday
-Between Naps on the Porch
-One Artsy Mama
-The Rusty Hinge
-Two Yellow Birds Decor
-Tatertots & Jello
-Fingerprints on the Fridge
-Get Outta My Head Please
-How Does She
And, again, check out my Linky Party page for more! Okay, so that's a few of the blogs I like! There are so many busy moms who have stories, pictures, and ideas to share like me. Blogging is a great way to connect.
Have any other questions? I'd love to hear from you!
